Mint leaves
Description
Mint leaves are characterized by their intense, refreshing aroma and cooling menthol aftertaste. They have small, oval-shaped leaves with a distinct green color and a delicate texture. Fresh leaves are easy to chop and make a striking visual addition, while dried leaves retain a concentrated flavor profile. Nutritionally, mint is low in calories and provides vitamin A, vitamin C, folic acid, and minerals such as iron and manganese, as well as phenolic compounds (e.g., rosmarinic acid) with antioxidant properties. The leaves aid digestion, relieve bloating, have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, and freshen breath. In the kitchen, they pair well with drinks, desserts, salads, sauces, meats (especially lamb), yogurt dips, and teas. To keep them fresh, store them wrapped in a damp paper towel in an airtight container or in a glass of water in the fridge; they can also be frozen in ice cubes with water or oil.
