Oat milk
Description
Oat milk is a creamy, slightly thick beverage with a light beige color and a delicate, slightly sweet taste with a distinct oat note and a subtle grain aroma. The consistency can be smooth or somewhat thicker depending on the brand and emulsifying additives. Nutritionally, it is a plant-based product with moderate energy value, low saturated fat content, and zero cholesterol; it is often fortified with calcium, vitamin D, and B12. Natural beta-glucans from oats help lower cholesterol and stabilize blood sugar levels, although the protein content is lower than that of cow's milk. This makes oat milk a good choice for vegans and those with lactose intolerance, as well as for heart health-conscious individuals. In the kitchen, it works well in coffee, lattes, smoothies, oatmeal, cream soups, sauces, and baked goods, adding creaminess and a gentle sweetness. It should be stored in the refrigerator after opening, preferably in its original, airtight packaging, and consumed within 5–7 days; unopened UHT milk can be stored until the expiration date, while homemade versions have a shorter shelf life and require quick cooling.
