Coriander seeds
Description
Coriander seeds are small, round balls about 2–3 mm in diameter, usually ranging in color from yellowish-brown to golden. The flavor is complex: subtly citrusy and fresh with a hint of spice and a slightly nutty, sweet finish. The aroma is particularly released after toasting or crushing. Nutritionally, the seeds contain fiber, essential oils, vitamins, and minerals such as iron, calcium, and magnesium, as well as antioxidants. They are traditionally used to support digestion, relieve bloating, and as an ingredient with anti-inflammatory properties that aids metabolism. In the kitchen, they fit well in spice blends, curries, marinades, bread, preserves, and meat dishes; their aroma is best released by toasting or grinding just before use. Store in a dry, airtight container in a cool, dark place; whole seeds retain freshness much longer than ground ones.
