Walnuts (optional)
Description
Walnuts, an optional addition with irregular, wavy halves and a warm, brown-gold color, have a distinctly buttery, slightly bitter taste with earthy notes. Finely chopped or coarsely broken, they add crunch and aroma to dishes, while whole halves look great as a decoration. They are rich in unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, plant protein, fiber, B vitamins, vitamin E, and minerals such as magnesium and phosphorus, which support the cardiovascular system, brain, and digestion. They pair well with salads, bread, desserts, muesli, and savory dishes, especially with cheeses and greens. Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place or in the refrigerator to extend freshness and prevent the fats from going rancid.
