Paneer

Description

Paneer is a fresh, white cheese of Indian origin with a delicate, milky flavor and a firm, slightly crumbly texture that absorbs spices and sauces well. It is made by coagulating milk with acid (e.g., lemon juice), which gives it a neutral aroma and a pleasantly elastic structure. Nutritionally, paneer is a rich source of complete protein and calcium, also providing B vitamins and fats depending on the milk used; it supports muscle recovery and bone health, making it a valuable product in a vegetarian diet. In the kitchen, paneer is used versatilely: it pairs well with curries (e.g., palak paneer), grilled and marinated dishes (paneer tikka), salads, sandwiches, and as a meat substitute in stir-fries. It should be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container, preferably submerged in water, which should be changed daily; under these conditions, it stays fresh for about 3–5 days. It can be frozen, although after thawing, the texture may become more crumbly.
