Pita bread

Description

Pita bread is a flat, round bread with a soft, elastic texture and a subtly sweet, yeasty aroma, often featuring the characteristic pocket formed during baking. It comes in a light, golden color; when heated, it becomes crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Nutritionally, pita primarily provides carbohydrates as an energy source, a moderate amount of protein, and very little fat, while whole grain versions increase fiber, B vitamins, and minerals, promoting satiety and digestive health. In the kitchen, pita works well as a base for sandwiches, wraps, and kebabs, pairing perfectly with hummus, falafel, vegetables, meats, or salads, and also serves as a mini pizza base. It is best stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 2–3 days, in the refrigerator for up to a week, or frozen for 2–3 months; before serving, refresh it in the oven, toaster, or on a skillet.
