Long-grain white rice
Description
Long-grain white rice has a delicate, mild flavor and a pearly white color; the grains are slender and remain fluffy after cooking, allowing them to separate well. It is a source of easily digestible carbohydrates, a moderate amount of protein, and very low fat content; in enriched versions, it also provides B vitamins and iron. It acts quickly as a source of energy, is gluten-free, and easy to digest, although it has less fiber than brown rice. In the kitchen, it works well as a base for pilafs, Asian dishes, salads, side dishes for meats and sauces, as well as light rice desserts, especially when we want a fluffy consistency. Store it in an airtight container, in a dry and cool place, away from strong odors; in a humid climate, it is advisable to keep rice in the refrigerator or with a moisture-absorbing agent, which extends its freshness.
