Cheese (cheddar or similar)
Description
Cheddar cheese or a similar type has a flavor ranging from mild and buttery to sharp and tangy, with a creamy, firm texture and a color from light yellow to deep orange. The cross-section shows a smooth structure, and well-aged specimens may have a slightly crumbly consistency and a richer aroma. Nutritionally, it is a good source of protein, calcium, vitamin B12, and phosphorus, which supports bone health and muscle function; however, it contains relatively high amounts of saturated fat and salt, so it is best consumed in moderation. In the kitchen, it is versatile: it melts well in casseroles, sauces, burgers, and pasta, and perfectly complements sandwiches, salads, and cheese boards, adding depth of flavor. Store in the refrigerator wrapped in parchment paper or aluminum foil in an airtight container, in the coolest part, and use within a few weeks; before serving, it is advisable to bring it to room temperature. Freezing is possible, but it may change the texture.
