Sesame seeds - optional for sprinkling
Description
Sesame seeds are small, oval seeds that come in cream, brown, or black colors, with a delicate, slightly sweet, and distinctly nutty aroma that is released especially after toasting. As an optional topping, they add crunch and a subtle depth of flavor to dishes, while also serving an aesthetic purpose as a finishing touch. Sesame seeds are rich in unsaturated fats, plant protein, fiber, and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron, as well as antioxidant compounds (lignans) that support heart and bone health and lipid metabolism. Their uses include bread, salads, sushi, Asian and Middle Eastern dishes, tahini, hummus, and toppings for roasted vegetables or pasta, where they enhance flavor and texture. Sesame seeds are best stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place; for longer shelf life, it is advisable to keep them in the refrigerator or freezer, especially after toasting.
