Fresh plums
Description
Fresh plums have a juicy, sweet-tart flavor with a hint of aromatic freshness; the skin can be purple, red, or yellow, and the flesh ranges from creamy to intensely colored, with a round or slightly elongated shape. Their texture is firm in less ripe fruits and softens as they ripen, releasing natural sweetness. Nutritionally, plums are low in calories, rich in fiber, vitamins A and C, vitamin K, potassium, as well as antioxidant and phenolic compounds; they also contain natural sorbitol that aids digestion. Regular consumption may support bowel function, the circulatory system, and overall immunity. In the kitchen, fresh plums are excellent raw as a snack, in salads, desserts, cakes, jams, and in sauces and braised meat dishes as a sweet-tart element. They are best stored unpaired and unwashed in the refrigerator for 3–7 days; unripe fruits ripen at room temperature, and they can also be frozen or processed for longer storage.
