Fresh chives
Description
Fresh chives are a delicate, light green plant with thin, tubular leaves and a fresh, mild onion flavor with a hint of garlic. Their intense aroma and crunchy texture add lightness to dishes without overpowering other ingredients, and their aesthetic green color beautifully decorates meals. Chives are low in calories and a source of vitamin K, vitamin C, folic acid, as well as antioxidants and sulfur compounds that support the immune system and circulation. In the kitchen, they are used as a fresh seasoning and decoration for salads, soups, omelets, cottage cheese, sauces, fish, and potatoes, where they add freshness. They should be stored unwashed, wrapped in a damp paper towel in a sealed bag or in a glass of water in the refrigerator; finely chopped chives can also be frozen in cubes with oil for longer storage.
