Cooked ham
Description
Cooked ham has a delicate, slightly sweet flavor and a uniformly pink color with a soft, juicy texture. The slices are smooth, easy to cut, and the skin and light layer of fat enhance the aroma when heated. It pairs wonderfully in sandwiches, salads, casseroles, soups, and as an addition to breakfast dishes or party platters. As a meat product, it provides easily digestible protein, B vitamins (especially B12 and niacin), and minerals such as iron and phosphorus, but it can also contain a lot of salt and saturated fats, so it’s best to consume it in moderation. It should be stored in the refrigerator in a sealed package or wrapped in foil, for up to 3–4 days after opening; freezing in an airtight container improves shelf life to 1–2 months. Before consumption, check the smell and appearance and heat it to a safe temperature.
