Parma ham (prosciutto di parma)

Description

Parma ham (prosciutto di Parma) is thinly sliced, dry-cured ham with a delicate, sweet-salty note and a slightly nutty flavor. It has an intense pink color with creamy white streaks of fat, a soft, silky texture, and an aging aroma that is best revealed when served at room temperature. It is a source of highly digestible protein, B vitamins, and minerals such as iron and zinc, but it also contains salt and saturated fats, so it is advisable to consume it in moderation. In the kitchen, it pairs well with antipasti, melons, salads, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, and risotto, and is often used to wrap asparagus or as a finishing touch for dishes. Store in the refrigerator, preferably wrapped in parchment paper or a clean cloth in an airtight container; slices should be consumed within 2–5 days of opening, while a whole leg can be stored longer in a cool, dry place.
