Whole grain tortilla
Description
Whole grain tortilla has a light brown, slightly grainy appearance and a pleasantly nutty, somewhat earthy flavor with a flexible, soft texture when heated. It is thicker than a white tortilla and often contains small bits of bran and seeds. Nutritional values include a higher content of fiber, plant protein, and B vitamins, as well as minerals such as iron and magnesium; it provides complex carbohydrates with a lower glycemic index than refined tortillas, which helps with feelings of fullness and stabilizing blood sugar levels. In the kitchen, it works well as a base for wraps, burritos, quesadillas, tacos, as well as a foundation for mini-pizzas or cut into chips for dips. To maintain freshness, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about a week, or freeze for longer (up to 2–3 months), thawing and briefly heating before serving.
