Coconut flakes
Description
Coconut flakes are small, flat shavings with a creamy-white color and a mildly sweet, nutty-cream aroma with a slight fibrous texture. In their fresh form, they have a soft, slightly fatty structure, and when toasted, they take on a golden color and a more intense flavor. Nutritionally, the flakes are calorie-dense and rich in saturated fats, especially medium-chain fatty acids (lauric acid), and they also provide fiber, a small amount of protein, and minerals such as manganese, copper, and iron. When consumed in moderation, they support a feeling of fullness and provide energy, but it's important to control portions due to their calorie density. Flakes pair wonderfully in baked goods, bars, macaroons, granolas, smoothie bowls, tropical desserts, and as a topping for salads or curries. Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place; after opening, it's best to refrigerate or freeze them to prevent rancidity and maintain aroma.
