Cherry
Description
Cherry is a juicy fruit with a round shape, a shiny skin ranging from light red to dark blue, and a hard pit inside; the taste can be sweet or tart-sour depending on the variety, making it versatile in the kitchen. Nutritionally, cherries provide few calories (about 50–60 kcal/100 g), are a source of vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, especially anthocyanins, which have anti-inflammatory effects and may support heart health and muscle recovery; they also contain compounds that promote better sleep. In the kitchen, they work well in desserts, compotes, jams, baked goods, and smoothies, as well as a sauce for meats (e.g., pork, duck) or as a base for liqueurs. Store them in the refrigerator in a breathable container, without washing before storing, and use within a few days; they can also be pitted and frozen or preserved.
