blueberry
Description
Blueberries are small, round fruits with a characteristic blue-gray bloom and a sweet-tart, delicately aromatic flavor, with hints of raspberry and gooseberry. They are low in calories, rich in fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and manganese, and are abundant in antioxidants, especially anthocyanins and polyphenols, which support heart health, the immune system, and cognitive functions, as well as having anti-inflammatory effects and helping to regulate blood glucose levels. In the kitchen, blueberries work well raw in yogurts, oatmeal, and salads, as well as in smoothies, baked goods, jams, sauces for meats, and desserts, where they pair with lemon, cottage cheese, or poultry. Store them in the refrigerator in a loosely covered container, without washing them before storing, removing any moldy pieces; for longer storage, freeze them spread out on a baking sheet, then transfer to a sealed bag.
