Sweet potato
Description
Sweet potato is a sweet, slightly nutty tuber with smooth or slightly wrinkled skin, available in varieties with flesh ranging from creamy white to orange to deep purple. Its texture is soft and creamy when baked, and the flavor gains depth through caramelization. Nutritionally, sweet potato provides complex carbohydrates and fiber, is a good source of beta-carotene (vitamin A), vitamin C, potassium, and manganese, as well as antioxidants that have anti-inflammatory effects. Regular consumption supports eye health, the immune system, and blood sugar regulation, while its relatively low glycemic index makes it beneficial for the diet. In the kitchen, sweet potato works well baked, stewed, in purée, fries, soups, curries, and desserts, pairing nicely with sweet-spicy spices, herbs, and proteins. Store it in a cool, dry, dark place (around 12–16°C), not in the fridge, avoiding moisture and direct light; raw sweet potatoes stay fresh for several weeks, cooked three to five days in the fridge or longer in the freezer.
