Digestive biscuits
Description
Digestive biscuits are crumbly, golden cookies with a subtly malty-buttery flavor and a slightly grainy texture resulting from the use of whole grain flour. They have a pleasant, subtle aroma and crumble evenly, making them a versatile addition to beverages and desserts. Nutritionally, digestive biscuits primarily provide carbohydrates and energy, with a moderate content of fat and protein, as well as some fiber and minerals from the whole grain flour; historically, the name refers to the addition of baking soda, once thought to aid digestion. In the kitchen, they work well as a snack with tea and coffee, a base for cheesecake and tart crusts, an addition to cold desserts, or a crumble for yogurts and ice creams. To maintain freshness, store them in an airtight container in a dry, cool place, and they can be frozen for longer storage.
