Brown sugar
Description
Brown sugar is a fine-grained or slightly moist sugar with a warm, caramel color and a distinct molasses flavor that adds sweetness with a hint of toffee. Its aroma and texture are more complex than white sugar, enriching flavors and adding moisture to baked goods. In terms of nutritional value, it mainly provides sucrose and calories similar to white sugar, containing only trace amounts of minerals (e.g., potassium, calcium, iron) from molasses; from a health perspective, it is best used sparingly. In the kitchen, brown sugar works well in cakes, crumbles, caramelizing, glazes, marinades, and sauces, as well as an addition to coffee and oatmeal, where it enhances the depth of flavor. Store it tightly closed in a cool, dry place to prevent it from hardening; if it clumps, you can soften it with a piece of apple or a slice of bread left for a few hours.
