Demerara brown sugar
Description
Demerara brown sugar is an unrefined cane sugar with large, crunchy crystal structures and a warm, golden-brown color, distinguished by its subtle caramel-molasses aroma and a hint of toffee. Nutritionally, it mainly consists of sucrose, providing quick energy and containing trace amounts of minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium, more than white sugar, but it should still be consumed in moderation as a sugar additive. Demerara works great in baked goods, crumbles, cookies, as a topping for rolls and muffins, for sweetening coffee or tea, and in glazes, marinades, and caramel-based desserts. It should be stored in an airtight container in a dry, cool, and dark place, away from strong odors; if it clumps, a small piece of bread or a slice of apple in the container helps restore moisture.
