Description
Granulated sugar is a white, fine-grained table sugar with a pure, intense sweetness and a fine, shiny texture that dissolves quickly and provides even sweetness to dishes. As sucrose, it primarily provides energy—about 4 kcal per gram—making it a quick source of fuel for the body after being broken down into glucose and fructose. It does not contain significant vitamins or minerals, so its use should be limited and treated as an energy supplement, not a source of micronutrients. In the kitchen, granulated sugar works well in baking, creams, desserts, beverages, and when preparing caramel or jams, where solubility and uniform sweetness are key. It should be stored in an airtight, dry container away from moisture and strong odors; to prevent clumping, you can add a few dry grains of rice or use an airtight seal.
