Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Description
Powdered sugar (for dusting) is a finely ground, white powder with a very sweet, neutral taste and a silky smooth texture, often with a small amount of starch added (to prevent clumping). Thanks to its delicate structure, it adheres perfectly to baked goods and sweets, giving them a subtle, shiny appearance and a pleasant, instant sweetness in the mouth. Nutritionally, it is practically pure simple carbohydrate, providing quickly available energy but is almost devoid of proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals; excessive consumption can contribute to tooth decay, weight gain, and fluctuations in blood sugar levels. In the kitchen, it is used for dusting cookies, donuts, meringues, truffles, and for sprinkling and finishing cakes and desserts; it also works well as an ingredient in icings and creams. It should be stored in a tightly sealed container in a dry, cool, and dark place, away from moisture and strong odors; if it clumps, simply sift the sugar before use.
