Garlic powder
Description
Garlic powder is a fine, light yellow to beige powder with a concentrated, milder aroma than fresh garlic — the taste is warm, slightly sweet, and less pungent, as the drying process reduces the immediate intensity of allicin. It resembles a floury powder, easily dissolving in dry mixes and sauces. Nutritionally, garlic powder is low in calories, containing trace amounts of vitamins and minerals, as well as sulfur compounds and antioxidants that may support immunity and cardiovascular health; however, the health profile differs from fresh garlic due to the loss of some volatile components. In the kitchen, it is perfect for spice blends, marinades, soups, sauces, dressings, and breading for meats and vegetables when convenience and a uniform flavor are needed. Store in an airtight container, in a cool, dark, and dry place away from moisture and heat; best used within 6–12 months to maintain aroma.
