Espresso (concentrated)
Description
Concentrated espresso is an intense, aromatic brew with a dark brown, almost black color and a thick consistency, often topped with a creamy layer of crema; the flavor is concentrated, bitter-sour with hints of roasting and fruit depending on the beans. Nutritionally, espresso is low in calories, provides caffeine and antioxidants, especially chlorogenic acids; moderate consumption improves alertness, concentration, and may support metabolism, although sensitive individuals, pregnant women, and those with certain conditions should limit their intake. In the kitchen, concentrated espresso works well as a base for milk drinks, liqueurs, and cocktails, enhances the flavor of desserts (tiramisu, ice cream, cakes), meat sauces, and marinades, as well as being an addition to chocolate recipes. It is best consumed freshly brewed; prepared espresso should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 24–48 hours or frozen in portions (e.g., ice cubes) for longer, avoiding light and heat sources.
