Feta (optional)
Description
Feta (optional) is a white, crumbly cheese with a briny flavor and a slightly creamy, crumbly texture; its distinctive, tangy-salty note comes from sheep's milk or a blend of sheep's and goat's milk. The product provides valuable protein, calcium, and B vitamins, as well as beneficial fatty acids, supporting bone health and a sense of fullness, but it contains relatively high amounts of sodium and saturated fats, so it should be used in moderation. Feta is traditionally used in salads (e.g., Greek), casseroles, fillings for dumplings and spanakopita, and served with vegetables, pasta, or grilled meat — it pairs well with olive oil, herbs, and citrus. It is best stored in brine or an airtight container in the refrigerator; once opened, consume within a few days, and freezing is possible, but it changes the texture and crumbly nature of the cheese.
