Simple sugar syrup (1:1)
Description
Simple syrup 1:1 is a clear, slightly sticky liquid with a neutral sweet taste and a shiny, colorless appearance. It is made by dissolving equal parts of sucrose and water and provides concentrated sweetness without additional flavors, making it a very versatile ingredient. Its nutritional values mainly consist of calories from simple sugars — approximately 48 kcal per tablespoon — with no protein, fat, or significant vitamins; it is a quick source of energy, but in excess, it can contribute to weight gain and metabolic issues. In the kitchen, syrup 1:1 is used to sweeten drinks, cocktails, lemonades, coffee, and tea, to soak sponge cakes, and for preparing sauces, glazes, and desserts, where it helps create a uniform and smooth flavor. It should be stored in an airtight, sterilized container in the refrigerator for about 2–4 weeks; adding a small amount of alcohol or citric acid can extend its shelf life to several months.
