Ground nutmeg
Description
Ground nutmeg has a warm, spicy aroma with a hint of sweetness and a delicate bitterness, a nutty-earthy flavor with a slight spicy finish; its color ranges from light to dark brown powder, and its intense scent is released even in small amounts. In small doses, it provides antioxidants and compounds with mild anti-inflammatory properties and aids digestion, as well as enhancing the aroma of dishes; however, it is important to remember that in large quantities it contains psychoactive substances and can be toxic, so it should be used sparingly. In the kitchen, ground nutmeg is suitable for desserts, baked goods, puddings, and spiced drinks, as well as for sauces, mashed potatoes, casseroles, creamy soups, and meat dishes, including curry, where it adds depth of flavor. It should be stored in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture; the whole fruit retains its aroma longer, while the ground spice is best used within a few months.
