Grapefruit
Description
Grapefruit is a round fruit with thick skin, ranging from light yellow to pink-red, with juicy, segmented flesh that combines distinct acidity with pleasant bitterness and subtle sweetness. It has a fresh, refreshing aroma and visually complements salads and fruit platters. Nutritionally, grapefruit is low in calories, rich in vitamin C, fiber, potassium, and antioxidants, especially lycopene in pink and red varieties, which supports immunity, heart health, and digestion. In the kitchen, it is used raw, in juices, smoothies, salsas, marinades for fish and poultry, as well as in desserts and salads with avocado or arugula. When following a diet, it is important to remember the possible interactions of grapefruit with many medications. Whole fruits can be stored for a few days at room temperature or up to 2–3 weeks in the refrigerator; once cut, keep in an airtight container and consume within 2–3 days.
