Halloumi
Description
Halloumi is a white, semi-hard cheese originating from Cyprus, with a dense, elastic structure and a light, slightly glossy cross-section; the flavor is distinctly milky, salty, and slightly sour, with a characteristic high melting point, making it perfect for frying and grilling without melting. Nutritionally, halloumi is rich in protein and calcium, providing phosphorus and B vitamins, which support bone building and muscle recovery, but it contains relatively high levels of saturated fat and sodium, so it should be consumed in moderation. Halloumi pairs well with grilled vegetables, salads, sandwiches, and skewers, and it also complements fruits, honey, and citrus. It is best stored in the refrigerator in brine or an airtight container; once opened, consume within a few days, and freezing is not recommended as it alters the texture.
