Limoncello
Description
Limoncello is an Italian liqueur with an intense, clear yellow color, a distinct aroma of lemon peel, a sweet-sour taste, and a smooth, sweet-alcohol structure (usually 25–30% alcohol). The oily freshness of lime and the sweetness of sugar are noticeable, creating a refreshing, slightly syrupy flavor profile ideal for a digestif. Nutritionally, limoncello is primarily a source of calories from alcohol and sugar, with virtually no protein, fat, or fiber; it contains trace amounts of vitamin C from the peel, but health benefits are limited and only relevant with moderate consumption — it may aid digestion after a meal. In the kitchen, it is used as a digestif, an ingredient in cocktails, an addition to desserts (ice cream, tiramisu, creams), glazes, marinades, and sauces for seafood. Store in a tightly sealed bottle, in a cool, dark place or in the freezer, where it becomes thick and is served chilled; homemade liqueurs are best consumed within a few months.
