Coconut flour
Description
Coconut flour is a fine, light cream-colored powder with a delicate, naturally sweet aroma of coconut and a slightly grainy texture. It has a distinct coconut flavor, but it does not overpower other ingredients, adding a subtle tropical note to baked goods and dishes. The flour is rich in fiber, has a moderate protein content, and a lower glycemic index than wheat flours, with relatively low starch content; it is naturally gluten-free and helpful in appetite control and stabilizing blood sugar levels. It also contains healthy fats and minerals derived from coconut. In the kitchen, it is great for gluten-free baking, thickening creams, smoothies, or breading; due to its high absorbency, it requires more liquids and often needs to be combined with eggs or other flours (e.g., almond flour). Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place; for longer freshness, keep in the refrigerator or freezer to prevent rancidity and contamination.
