Honey (optional)
Description
Honey (optional) is a natural, sticky syrup with a rich range of flavors — from delicately floral to intensely caramel — and colors ranging from nearly transparent to deep amber, depending on the nectar source. Its taste is sweet and aromatic, capable of enhancing both sweet and savory dishes, giving them fullness and roundness. Nutritionally, honey consists mainly of simple sugars (fructose and glucose), providing calories and small amounts of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants; it also has antibacterial properties and soothes the throat. It should be used in moderation due to its high sugar content and avoided in children under 1 year of age. In the kitchen, honey pairs well with teas, sauces, marinades, grilled dishes, baked goods, and cheeses. It should be stored tightly in a dry, cool place, not necessarily in the refrigerator; crystallization can be reversed by warming the jar in a warm water bath.
