Chili pepper (chili flakes)
Description
Chili pepper flakes are dried, brittle flakes of intense red with small seeds; they have a distinct, warming, and spicy flavor that can be slightly sweet or smoky depending on the variety. They contain capsaicin, which is responsible for the heat, as well as vitamins A and C and antioxidants; when used in moderation, they can support metabolism, circulation, and have anti-inflammatory effects, although they may cause gastrointestinal irritation in sensitive individuals. Chili flakes are perfect for soups, sauces, marinades, and rubs, enhancing pizzas, pasta, meat and vegetable dishes, as well as Asian and Mexican cuisine, adding depth of flavor. To preserve their aroma and heat, store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry, and dark place; avoid moisture, and for longer storage, use the refrigerator or freezer.
