Chili powder
Description
Chili powder is a finely ground powder with an intense red-orange color and a spicy-fruity, sometimes slightly smoky aroma; its hotter varieties create a strong burning sensation due to the presence of capsaicin. The product is low in calories, provides vitamins A and C, and antioxidants, and capsaicin may support metabolism, circulation, and have anti-inflammatory effects, although it can cause gastrointestinal irritation in some individuals. In the kitchen, chili pairs well with meat dishes, stews, sauces, marinades, vegetable roasting spices, soups, Mexican, Asian, and fusion cuisine, adding depth and warmth; use it sparingly and gradually. Store in a sealed, opaque container in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from moisture and heat; the best aroma lasts for 6–12 months.
