Skewers
Description
Skewers are simple kitchen tools available in bamboo, wooden, or metal versions, with a smooth, light surface and neutral taste, sometimes with a slight natural wood aroma. They do not add calories or nutrients on their own, so their health role is indirect: they facilitate portioning, promote grilling and baking without excess fat, and reduce contact of dishes with surfaces, which can improve hygiene during preparation. They are most commonly used for meat, vegetable, and fruit skewers, as well as for serving snacks or desserts, and for grilling marshmallows or satay. Wooden skewers should be soaked before grilling to prevent burning, while metal ones should be thoroughly washed and dried after use, and can also be lightly oiled to prevent rusting. They should be stored in a dry, cool place, in their original packaging or in a closed container.
