Oat flakes
Description
Oats are flat, light beige flakes with a delicate, slightly nutty flavor and a creamy texture when cooked. Their neutral flavor profile makes them easy to combine with both sweet and savory additions, while maintaining a pleasant, soft texture or a subtle "bite" in darker versions. They are a rich source of fiber, especially beta-glucan, plant protein, and B vitamins, as well as minerals such as iron, magnesium, and zinc, which contribute to satiety, cholesterol regulation, and blood glucose stabilization, as well as gut health. In the kitchen, they work well as a base for oatmeal, an ingredient in granola, flakes for baking, a thickener for soups, or an addition to smoothies and patties. They should be stored tightly in a dry, cool place, preferably in an airtight container; for a longer shelf life, they can be kept in the refrigerator or freezer, away from moisture and strong odors.
