Description
Unsweetened pumpkin purée has a velvety, smooth texture and an intense orange color; the flavor is mildly sweet with a nutty-spicy note and subtle earthiness, making it a versatile addition to dishes. It pairs perfectly with cream soups, sauces, risottos, gnocchi, pierogi fillings, baked goods (bread, muffins, cakes), smoothies, and as a base for baby food, curries, and dips. Nutritionally, pumpkin purée is a source of beta-carotene (a precursor to vitamin A), fiber, vitamin C, and potassium; it is low in fat and calories; regular consumption supports vision, the immune system, skin, and digestion. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days or portion and freeze for about 3 months; thaw in the refrigerator. By canning, shelf life can be extended to a year.
