Ras el hanout

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Ras el hanout is a traditional Moroccan spice blend with a complex, multi-layered flavor — sweet and spicy, slightly pungent and floral with notes of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, turmeric, cumin, and black pepper; it ranges in color from golden-brown to brick-red, often with small pieces of seeds and skin. As a spice, it is low in calories, rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds derived from its individual ingredients, which supports digestion and may positively affect metabolism when used in normal amounts. The blend is perfect for tagines, couscous, meats (especially lamb and chicken), roasted vegetables, rice, marinades, and sauces; it is also used as a rub or an addition to yogurt and hummus. Store in an airtight, opaque container in a dry, cool place away from light and moisture; for the best intensity of aroma, use within 6–12 months, although whole spices retain freshness longer. Regional blends may vary in composition.
