Iceberg lettuce
Description
Iceberg lettuce has a compact, round head with crispy, light green leaves and a delicate, fresh taste with low bitterness, making it a neutral addition to many dishes. With its high water content and low calorie count, it is easily digestible; it provides fiber, vitamin K, certain amounts of vitamin A and folic acid, as well as antioxidants, supporting hydration, digestion, and weight control. In the kitchen, iceberg lettuce works great in salads, as a base for coleslaws, an addition to burgers, wraps, and tacos, and as a crunchy element for sandwiches and dips; it pairs well with vinaigrettes, creamy dressings, and fresh herbs. Store it whole, unwashed, in a perforated bag in the refrigerator drawer; once cut, use it within a few days and avoid contact with ethylene-producing fruits.
