Salted herring - fillets
Description
Salted herring in the form of fillets has an intense, distinctly salty flavor with a rich, velvety texture and silvery-gray flesh. The aroma is characteristic, fishy, but pleasant; the fillets can be sold in salt, brine, or oil, which affects their appearance and degree of saltiness. The product provides high-quality protein, valuable unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids (EPA, DHA), vitamins D and B12, as well as selenium and phosphorus, which support the cardiovascular system, brain functions, and immunity. However, it is important to note the high sodium content. Herring fillets are great for traditional appetizers, salads, sandwiches, canapés, and also as a side dish with potatoes or dishes with onions and cream. Before serving, they are often soaked in milk or water to reduce saltiness. Store in a cool place, in the original brine or tightly wrapped, and consume within a few days after opening; they can also be frozen for longer storage.
