Worcestershire sauce
Description
Worcestershire sauce is a thick, dark brown, glossy sauce with an intense, multilayered flavor that combines umami, saltiness, acidity, and subtle sweetness with hints of anchovies, garlic, onion, molasses, and tamarind. With its complex aromatic profile, it excellently enhances meats, stews, sauces, and marinades, enriches dressings, soups, and cocktails like Bloody Mary, and also works well as a "seasoning" for vegetables, sandwiches, and grilled dishes. Nutritionally, Worcestershire sauce is low in calories and provides small amounts of minerals from fermented additives, but it contains relatively high sodium, so those on a low-sodium diet should use it sparingly. Once opened, it is best stored in the refrigerator, tightly sealed, where it maintains its quality for several months; an unopened bottle can be kept in a cool, dark place.
