Silken tofu
Description
Silken tofu has a very delicate, creamy taste and a velvety, almost pudding-like consistency, along with a bright white, smooth appearance that easily absorbs the flavors of added ingredients. It is a source of complete plant protein, low in calories and cholesterol-free, providing soy isoflavones, and depending on the coagulant, also calcium and iron, which support heart health, bones, and metabolism. Due to its low fat and carbohydrate content, it helps with weight control and satiety, making it a valuable component of a plant-based diet. In the kitchen, it works great in creamy sauces, dressings, smoothies, desserts, or miso soups, as well as a base for dips, vegan creams, and an egg substitute in baking. It should be stored in the refrigerator; once opened, it is best kept submerged in fresh water in a closed container, changing the water daily and using it within 3–5 days. It can also be frozen for a firmer texture.
