Tortilla chips (nachos)
Description
Tortilla chips (nachos) are crispy, triangular or scoop-shaped chips with a golden color and a distinct corn flavor, often seasoned with salt, lime, chili powder, or cheese sprinkle. The finish can be baked or fried, which affects the intensity of crunchiness and fat content, while whole grain versions offer a more pronounced, rustic aroma. Nutritionally, they are dominated by carbohydrates and fats, with a moderate protein content; fried chips have higher calories and more saturated fats and sodium, while baked and whole corn flour versions provide slightly more fiber and micronutrients. In the kitchen, they serve as a snack with salsa, guacamole, or cheese; they form the base of nachos with meat, vegetable, and bean toppings, and also work well as a crumble for salads or soups. Store them in an airtight container, in a dry, cool place, protecting them from moisture; to regain crunchiness, briefly toast them in the oven.
