Description
A large wheat tortilla is a thin, flexible flatbread with a light beige color, sometimes with slightly golden spots from frying, featuring a delicate, mildly wheat flavor and a soft, elastic texture that wraps easily. As a wheat flour-based product, it primarily provides carbohydrates as a quick source of energy, a small amount of protein and fat, and, depending on fortification, B vitamins and iron; whole grain versions additionally contain fiber beneficial for digestion. However, portion control and toppings should be monitored due to sodium content and processed carbohydrates. In the kitchen, a large wheat tortilla works well as a base for wraps, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas, or quick savory pizzas and pancakes, pairing perfectly with vegetables, plant-based or meat proteins, and sauces. It should be stored in an airtight container in a cool place, and after opening, in the refrigerator, where it will stay fresh for a few days; for longer storage, it is best to freeze in portions and thaw before heating on a skillet or in the microwave wrapped in a damp cloth.
