Pita bread

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Pita bread is a soft, round flatbread with a characteristic pocket that forms during baking; it has a delicate, slightly sweet flavor and a light brown, thin crust. Its neutral aroma makes it pair well with many flavors and fillings. Nutritionally, pita is primarily a source of carbohydrates and energy, and in its whole grain version, it additionally provides fiber, B vitamins, and minerals, which support digestion and provide a longer feeling of fullness. In the kitchen, pita serves as a pocket for falafel, gyro, or wraps, as a base for mini-pizzas, for dipping in spreads like hummus, and as an addition to salads. Store pita in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days; avoid the refrigerator, which can dry it out. For longer storage, freeze individually and reheat in the oven or on a skillet, optionally wrapping it in a damp cloth to soften.
