Canned chickpeas
Description
Canned chickpeas are cooked and preserved seeds with a creamy, slightly nutty flavor and a meaty, firm texture. The round, light yellowish grains have a smooth skin and retain their shape, making them an attractive addition to salads, spreads, and stews. They are an excellent source of plant protein, fiber, folic acid, iron, and magnesium; regular consumption supports a feeling of fullness, regulates intestinal peristalsis, and helps stabilize blood glucose levels. Chickpeas are suitable for hummus, curries, salads, soups, casseroles, and fillings, as well as a base for patties and baked snacks. Once opened, they should be drained and rinsed from the brine, stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2–3 days, and for longer storage, frozen for about 3 months. It is not recommended to store opened contents in a steel can.
