Unrefined brown sugar
Description
Unrefined brown sugar is characterized by a richer, caramel-molasses flavor and a golden-brown color, often with a slightly moist, grainy texture. It adds a deeper, slightly exotic note to dishes compared to white sugar, while still maintaining universal sweetness. Nutritionally, it is primarily sucrose, providing about 380–390 kcal per 100 g, but in its unrefined form, it contains trace amounts of minerals (calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron) and antioxidants. The benefits are moderate — flavor and small additions of microelements, while its effect on glycemia and calorie content is similar to that of refined sugar, so it should be used in moderation. It works excellently in baking, for beverages, coffee, dark baked goods, sauces, marinades, and glazes, pairing well with spices and fruits. Store in an airtight container, in a dry, cool place, away from moisture to prevent clumping.
