Pears (e.g. conference)
Description
Pears, such as the Conference variety, have a characteristic elongated shape with a green-yellow skin often featuring a brown blush and a fine, grainy, juicy flesh with a sweet, slightly floral flavor. They are low in calories, rich in dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants, which aids digestion, regulates blood pressure, and supports the immune system. In the kitchen, pears are suitable both raw in salads and with cheese, as well as baked, stewed, in compotes, cakes, and sauces for meats. They pair wonderfully with blue cheeses, nuts, honey, and red wine. To extend freshness, they ripen at room temperature, and once they reach softness, store them in the refrigerator; avoid bruising and keep them separate from ethylene-sensitive products.
