Ground poppy seeds
Description
Ground poppy seeds are finely ground seeds with a delicately nutty, slightly sweet flavor and a gray-blue, almost ash-like color. They have a velvety texture that absorbs moisture and intensifies the aroma of dishes after a light toasting. They pair wonderfully with baked goods, fillings, sauces for meats and vegetables, and as a topping for salads and desserts. They are a good source of unsaturated fats, fiber, plant protein, and minerals such as calcium, iron, and magnesium, as well as B vitamins, which support bones, the circulatory system, and digestion. Due to their high oil content, it is best to store ground poppy seeds in an airtight container in a cool, dark place, in the refrigerator or freezer, to prevent rancidity; use within a few months.
